North American Savage em Escala / In Scale
Olá pessoal! Hello guys!
Estou lendo o livro “Scooter!” do Tommy Thomason e na parte inicial do livro comenta-se muito dos primeiros caças e bombardeiros a jato da US Navy no período pós guerra. Entre esses me chamou muito a atenção o North American AJ1/2 Savage pois tinha uma configuração bem atípica com dois motores a pistão “puxando” e um motor a jato J 33 empurrando o mesmo. Claro que fui procurar mais informações sobre o avião e claro ver se não havia kits disponíveis para montar essa rara e desconhecida aeronave.
I'm reading the book "Scooter!" by Tommy Thomason and the early part of the book tells a lot about the early fighter/bomber jets from US Navy in the post-war period. Among these what caught my attention was the North American AJ1 / 2 Savage because it had a very atypical configuration with two piston engines "pulling" and a jet engine J 33 “pushing” the airplane. Of course I went to look for more information about it and to see if there were kits available of this rare and unknown aircraft.
A característica mais marcante deste avião era o motor a jato na cauda, que era utilizado como auxiliar na decolagem e nas corridas de bombardeio.
The Savage was an US Navy nuclear bomber that was designed to carry the MK 4 nuclear bomb, similar to the "Fat Man" that was detonated in Japan at the end of the IIGM. As the bomb was not small, the bomber designed was also quite large, even more so to land on a carrier. The first prototype flew in 1948, but the production version, the AJ 1 Savage, began operating in late 1949 and 55 units were built. In the middle of the year of 1950 appeared the AJ 2, that had other 55 aircraft produced and still others many AJ 1 modernized. In the following years the bomber was being deactivated and passed to the task of photographic reconnaissance and refueling.
The most striking feature of this aircraft was the tail-jet engine, which was used as an aid in take-off and bombardment races.
Mas e os kits?
Bom, pesquisando na internet, achei kits injetados, em resina e em vacuum form para esse avião. Na escala 1/48 existe o belo kit em resina da Collect Aire (AJ 2) e na 1/72 o da Anigrand (AJ 2) também em resina. A Mach 2 (AJ 2) oferece ele na 1/72 injetado, a Airmodel e a Rare Planes tem em vaccum form na 1/72.
But, what about the kits?
Well, searching on the internet, I found injected kits, resin and vacuum form for this plane. In the 1/48 scale there is the beautiful Collect Aire resin kit (AJ 2) and in 1/72 scale the Anigrand kit. Mach 2 offers it in 1/72 in injected plastic. Airmodel and Rare Plans have in vaccum form in 1/72 scale.
The Collect Aire kit is the only one kit in 1/48 scale but it seemed to me, to be a very well done kit with fine engraved details and detailed interior and has good reviews on the internet. If you build on this scale this should be your choice.
Na escala 1/72 existem mais escolhas, sendo as melhores o kit em resina da Anigrand. Esse kit é bem interessante, com detalhes em baixo relevo, interior detalhado e o formato geral me parece bem próximo ao avião original.
In the 1/72 scale there are more choices, the best being the Anigrand resin kit. This kit is very interesting, with engraved details, detailed interior and the general format seems very close to the original airplane.
E o kit injetado da Mach 2, também me parece um bom kit e tem a vantagem de ser injetado, por isso sendo mais fácil de montar. Conta com um interior com certo nível de detalhe e pode ser montado tanto na versão bombardeiro quanto na versão de reconhecimento.
And the injected Mach 2 kit also seems like a good kit and has the advantage of being injected, so it's easier to assemble. It has an interior with a certain level of detail and can be built in both bomber version or the reconnaissance version.
Os outros kits são moldados em vacuum form, entre eles o melhor é o da Rare Planes.
The other kits are molded in vacuum form, among them the best is that of Rare Planes.
De todos eles, podemos ter certeza que ficam muito bem na estante de qualquer modelista pois com certeza é um modelo muito diferente em qualquer coleção!
Of all of them, you can be sure that they look great on any modeler's shelf because it is a very different and nice model in any collection!
