REVIEW: AK Interactive Luftwaffe Fighter Colours 1941-44

Seguindo com a saga da troca das tintas à base de solvente para as acrílicas. Já tenho usado tintas AMMO, Hataka, Valejo e venho me adaptando bem. Desta vez resolvi testar as tintas da AK Interactive, que tem sets para aviação bem interessantes, com custo benefício maior que os concorrentes em alguns temas.

Following with the saga of the exchange of solvent-based paints for acrylics. I have already used AMMO, Hataka, Valejo paints and I have been adapting well. This time I decided to test the AK Interactive paints, which have very interesting aviation sets, with the best cost vs benefit than the competitors in some subjects.

O set que vou testar desta vez é o ref. AK 2090 que traz as cores mais comuns da Luftwaffe no período do meio para o final da IIGM. Ou seja, as cores RLM 74, 75, 76 e um 02. Na época que comprei esse set, era um dos únicos fabricantes de tintas acrílicas que disponibilizava essa combinação de tintas.
Para o teste estou usando uma sucata de um Hellcat, devidamente preparado com primer acrílico.
The paint set that I'm going to test this time is ref. AK 2090 which brings the most common colors of the Luftwaffe in the middle period to the end of the IIWW. That is, RLM colors 74, 75, 76 and a 02. By the time I bought it, it was one of the only manufacturers of acrylic paints that made this combination of paints.
For the test I am using a scrap fuselage from a Hellcat, properly prepared with acrylic primer.

Para a cor base da pintura, como normalmente acontece nos aviões da Luftwaffe, usei o RLM 76 sem nenhuma diluição, que me pareceu um pouco mais fluido que as tintas da AMMO, e a cobertura é muito boa, com o tom da cor bem próximo ao que estamos acostumados a ver no 76.
For the base color of the painting, as normally happens on Luftwaffe planes, I used the RLM 76 without any dilution, which seemed to me a bit more fluid than the AMMO paints, and the coverage is very good, with the color tone very close to which we are used to see in the 76.

Depois passei para o RLM 74 e 75, onde tive alguns problemas. Mas foram problemas mais relacionados aos testes que tentei fazer, do que da tinta em sí.
Com essas duas cores resolvi fazer um "mottling" para simular as camuflagens alemãs que vamos aplicar com essas tintas. O aerógrafo que eu estava usando era um Elaga S3S com agulha 0,3mm. Como já tinha usado ele para aplicar o primer e o rlm 76, resolvi fazer um teste com diluição da tinta com álcool Isopropílico.
Then I went to RLM 74 and 75 and where I had some problems. But it was problems more related to the tests I tried to do than the paint itself.
With these two colors I decided to do a "mottling" to simulate the German camouflages that we will apply with these paints. The airbrush I was using was an Elaga S3S (Brazilian Brand) with a 0.3mm needle. As I had already used it to apply the primer and rlm 76, I decided to test the paint with Isopropyl alcohol.

Como podemos ver acima, a aplicação do mottling na sucata e na folha de papel começou a ficar muito ruim, com a tinta secando muito rápido e "coagulando" no aerógrafo. Creio que me passei na quantidade de álcool/água e o intenso calor que fazia aquele dia o resultado foi esse. Também, não podemos descartar algum tipo de interação do primer com o solvente.
As we can see above, the application of mottling on the scrap and the paper sheet began to get very bad, with the paint drying very fast and "coagulating" in the airbrush. I think I over passed the amount of alcohol and with the intense hot weather that made that day the resulted in this poor experience. Also, we can not rule out some kind of interaction of the primer with the solvent.

Com tudo isso, a solução foi partir para outro aerógrafo e fazer uma extensa limpeza do anterior. Desta vez, usando um aerógrafo chinês de agulha 0,2mm consegui resultados muito bons, sem diluição como podemos ver acima e na sucata.
With this situation, the solution was to go to another airbrush and do an extensive cleaning of the previous one. This time, using a 0.2mm Chinese needle airbrush I got very good results, no dilution as we can see above and in scrap.

Depois do teste padrão, fiz uma diluição de uns 20%, usando o diluente acrílico da AMMO e o resultado foi muito bom. Inclusive as linhas mais finas são feitas sem problemas. Gostei também da cobertura e dos tons do 74 e do 75.
Por fim, achei as tintas bem parecidas com os concorrentes AMMO by Mig e Hataka. Me pareceram um pouco mais fluidas e inclusive sem o problema de secar na ponta da agulha, mesmo que usando meus aerógrafos mais simples. Recomendo!
After the test, I made a 20% dilution using AMMO acrylic diluent and the results was very good. Even the thinnest lines are made without problems. I also liked the coverage and the tones of the 74 and 75.
Finally, I found the paints very similar to the competitors AMMO by Mig and Hataka. They seemed a bit more fluid and don't have the problem of drying on the tip of the needle, even using my simpler airbrushes. I recommend!
