REVIEW: AK Interactive Luftwaffe Camouflages 2
Recently I did a review of AK acrylic set (link) where I received several feedbacks commenting on the post. Along with that set I also purchased this other set, reference AK2020 - Luftwaffe Camouflages 2. This set is composed of desert colors (RLM 78,79 and 80), naval aircraft colors (RLM 72 and 73) and the colors used at the end of the war (RLM 81, 82 and 83).
Unlike some other manufacturers, AK usually brings in just a set virtually the full range of colors needed to reproduce an Air Force. In this way it is more convenient to acquire an AK set than another manufacturer, because in addition to being cheaper it also avoids the purchase of repeated colors.

E desta vez usei somente a
For this test I continued using the Hellcat scrap from the previous test, with a base of RLM 76 also from AK. And this time I used only paint straight from the tube, without any dilution and with a SPARMAX Max-3 airbrush. The first test was made with the desert colors and I considered the tones very close to what we consider "correct." I had no coverage problems, or drying on the tip of the airbrush. In order to do the "mottling" camouflage, I only slightly reduced the pressure of the compressor, but I believe that the dilution of the paint will help in the painting in this case.

The second test was with the classic colors of the end of the war (RLM 81,82,83) and again I was very satisfied with the paint tones and the ease of making the mottling camo, characteristic of the Luftwaffe. But the big surprise was actually the color RLM 83, which unlike the expected dark green is a dark blue!

What happens is that AK, unlike other manufacturers, is following the latest findings on this topic, mainly through respected researcher Michael Ullmann, author of some books about Luftwaffe and especially the one below.

escuro!
This is a very controversial topic and began to emerge in 2012, as you can see in the links at the end of the post. According to Ullmann there no documental evidence that the RLM 83 really was a dark green, and on the other hand he even found documents that attest that the color was dark blue!

AK recently launched the Real Colors line aviation paints which also features the RLM 83 as dark blue and even a book on air force colors of the WWII. Questioning on the internet one of the authors of the book on the RLM 83 the same confirmed that it has been proven that the actual color of the 83 is actually blue. And this is also described in the book.

Finally, the test with the remaining colors, RLM 72 and 73, used for Luftwaffe naval aircraft. The paint again had great coverage and the tones coming near the references that I found on the internet, after all I am not an expert on German naval aircraft of the IIWW.

To finish, I was very satisfied with this AK set and I recommend it to my hobby friends. On the issue of RLM 83, if you still want a dark green version, I recommend using RLM 71 or RLM 82 (with black) to make this dark variation. Or you can use acrylic paints from AMMO or Hataka.
