LIVRO: Air War over Kursk - SAM Publications

Mais uma dica de livro aqui no Looseplasti. Trata-se do título "Guerra Aérea sobre Kursk" do autor Dmitriy B. Khazanov e da editora SAM Publications. Realmente um tópico bem interessante sobre uma batalha mais conhecida pelos seus combates terrestres, principalmente as grandes formações blindadas da Wermacht e do Exército Vermelho.

One more book tip here at Looseplasti. This is "Aerial War on Kursk" by author Dmitriy B. Khazanov and publisher SAM Publications. Really a very interesting topic about a battle best known for its ground combat, especially the large armored formations of the Wermacht and the Red Army.

O livro retrata com muitos detalhes a ofensiva alemã no verão de 1943, quando uma grande armada aérea se posicionou para a "Operação Cidadela". Naquele período a Luftwaffe ainda era uma força de muito respeito, com vários ases ainda vivos e ativos no front.

The book portrays in great detail the German offensive in the summer of 1943, when a large aerial armada deployed for "Operation Citadel". At that time the Luftwaffe was still a force of great respect, with several aces still alive and active on the front.

 

O livro é largamente ilustrado com fotos da época e perfis das principais aeronaves e unidades participantes. Interessante notar que o autor chama a atenção do papel decisivo da Luftwaffe no inicio da operação, com supremacia área sobre o campo de batalha e com capacidade de isolar o terreno em diversos pontos do front.

The book is largely illustrated with photos of the time and profiles of the main aircraft and participating units. O contra ataque aéreo soviético só começou a dar certo quando a operação alemã começou a esmorecer e acabou por fracassando. Nesse período também, os aliados preparavam a invasão da Sicília e a ofensiva de bombardeios estratégicos sobre a Alemanha. Deste modo, as unidades aéreas tiveram que ser desviadas para outros frontes.

The Soviet air strike did not begin to work until the German operation began to weaken and ended up failing. During this period, too, the Allies were preparing for the invasion of Sicily and the offensive of strategic bombings on Germany. As a result, air units had to be diverted to other fronts.

A Operação Cidadela acabou não dando certo, e a Alemanha, a partir daí ficou na defensiva até o fim da guerra. Mas é de se notar que durante o periodo da operação naquela parte do fronte grandes ases alemães estiveram ativos, tais como Kuprinsky, Gunther Rall, Nowotny e Hartmann.

Operation Citadel didn't work out, and Germany was on the defensive thereafter until the end of the war. But it should be noted that during the period of the operation in that part of the front large German aces were active, such as Kuprinsky, Gunther Rall, Nowotny and Hartmann.

Por fim, o livro é um relato completo e detalhado sobre o periodo anterior, durante e posterior ao da batalha de Kursk. Recomendo muito para quem gosta do tema da Segunda Guerra Mundial, principalmente sobre os temas da frente leste.

Finally, the book is a complete and detailed account of the period before, during and after the battle of Kursk. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes the theme of World War II, especially about the themes of the eastern front.
