WIP: Racing Pilot 1/12 "Ayrton Senna" Parte 1

Sou um modelista bem mediano que monta aviões e dioramas. Já as figuras, são um exercício novo para mim. Essa vai ser a segunda figura, maior, que monto e pinto. Desta forma, conto com o perdão dos erros e falta de prática para esse tipo de montagem.

I am a very average modeler who build airplanes and dioramas. Figures, on the other hand, are a new exercise for me. This is going to be the second figure, big scale, that I build and paint. Thus, I count on the forgiveness of errors and lack of practice.

Por outro lado, Formula 1 e Ayrton Senna eu gosto e acompanho desde 1988. Então, como devem imaginar, sou um fã do Senna e da Formula 1 dos anos 70, 80 e 90. Acompanhei a carreira do Senna a partir da sua entrada na Mclaren em 1988 e continuo assistindo Formula 1 mesmo hoje, em tempos que não temos nenhum piloto brasileiro no circo.

On the other hand, Formula 1 and Ayrton Senna I like and follow since 1988. So, as you can imagine, I'm a fan of Senna and Formula 1 from the 70's, 80's and 90's. I followed Senna's career from his entry in Mclaren in 1988 and I continue to watch Formula 1 even today, at a time when we have no Brazilian driver in the circus.

Mas voltando a falar sobre plastimodelismo, tenho essa figura do Senna faz algum tempo e resolvi tentar mais uma vez um trabalho nessa modalidade. A escala, um pouco maior, ajuda o modelista pois o detalhes são maiores e mais fáceis de trabalhar. Por outro lado a figura vem inteira, o que fica mais complicado na hora da pintura e correções.

Back to talking about scale modeling, I have this figure of Senna for some time and I decided to try again a piece in this modality. The larger scale helps the modeler as the details are bigger and easier to work with. On the other hand, the figure is complete, which becomes more complicated when painting and correcting.

O kit representa o macacão vermelho da Mclaren no final dos anos 80, e tem opção para fazer com o capacete vestido ou sem o capacete. Mas como o capacete do Senna é icônico, resolvi modificar um pouco a figura e retirar a luva da mão direita e pendurar o capacete ali, como se estivesse carregando o mesmo.

The kit represents Mclaren's red overalls in the late 80s, and has an option to do with the helmet on or off. But as Senna's helmet is iconic, I decided to modify the figure a little and remove the glove from the right hand and hang the helmet there.

Depois da limpeza da resina, com água e detergente para evitar restos de desmoldante, fiz a limpeza das rebarbas e retirei a luva da mão direita. Em seguida apliquei o primer da AMMO by Mig.

After cleaning the resin with water and detergent, to avoid the mold grease, I cleaned the burrs and removed the glove from the right hand. Then I applied the AMMO by Mig primer.

Mesmo depois de aplicar o primer, alguns defeitos tiveram que ser corrigidos com lixa e com uma lima bem fina.

Even after applying the primer, some defects had to be corrected with sandpaper and a very fine file.

Para o vermelho do macacão usei o Vermelho A.Mig-049 da AMMO by Mig. Era a cor mais próxima que eu tinha. Essa base vermelha foi feita com aerógrafo, usando uma a base vermelha pura e o vermelho claro de cima para baixo e o escuro de baixo para cima. Assim, naturalmente, já temos a simulação das luzes no modelo.

For the overalls red I used the AMMO by Mig Red A.Mig-049. It was the closest color I had. This red base was made with an airbrush, using a pure red base and light red from top to bottom and dark from bottom to top. So, of course, we already have the simulation of the lights on the model.

Com a base pronta, e os pontos de luz já bem apontados pela técnica do aerógrafo, comecei a trazer mais luz para o modelo usando um Laranja HATAKA A062 e o próprio vermelho da base clareado com branco e amarelo.

With the base ready, and the points of light already well pointed out by the airbrush technique, I started to bring more light to the model using an Orange HATAKA A062 and the base's own red with white and yellow.

Os detalhes em branco do macacão, onde vão os patches dos patrocinadores também foram pintados com Branco A.Mig-047, já que os decais que vieram com a figura não tem o fundo branco.

The white details of the overalls, where the sponsors' patches go, were also painted with White A.Mig-047, since the decals that came with the figure do not have a white background.

Agora vem o grande desafio para mim, fazer o rosto da figura e achar uma mistura de cores para chegar ao tom de pele desejado. Como não tenho nenhuma tinta especifica para tom de pele resolvi me inspirar em algumas misturas que achei em livros, dicas de amigos e na internet.

Now comes the great challenge for me, to make the flesh of the figure and find a mixture of colors to reach the desired skin tone. As I don't have any specific paint for skin tone I decided to get inspired by some mixtures that I found in books, tips from friends and on the internet.

A primeira mistura que fiz foi com as cores Marrom, Siena, amarelo e laranja. O tom escuro de base ficou como esse acima, a partir daí fui adicionando branco e amarelo na mistura.

The first mix I did was with the colors Brown, Siena, yellow and orange. The dark base tone was like the one above, from then on I was adding white and yellow to the mix.

Mas como podemos ver nas fotos o tom de pele ficou muito cinza, quase um "Ayrton Zumbi"! 

But as we can see in the photos, the skin tone was very gray, almost an "Ayrton Zumbi"!

A solução foi voltar atrás e testar uma nova mistura, conversando com amigos refiz a mistura para Hataka A081 Terre Siena, AMMO A.125 Amarelo, AMMO A.049 Vermelho e o branco para clarear. Ficou bem melhor! Mas esse é um assunto para outro post!

The solution was to go back and test a new mixture, talking to friends, I redone the mixture for Hataka A081 Terre Siena, AMMO A.125 Yellow, AMMO A.049 Red and white to lighten. It's a lot better! But this is a subject for another post!
