REVIEW: Hobbyboss Douglas A-4E Skyhawk 1/72

Finalmente consegui fazer algumas fotos e uma análise mais detalhada do kit do Skyhawk da Hobbyboss. Esse que é o kit ou molde mais recentemente lançado do Scooter. Eu, como um apreciador desta garça, claro que tinha que ter um desses. Aliás, além do E, o fabricante tem o F e recentemente lançou o M. I finally managed to get some photos and a more detailed analysis of the Hobbyboss Skyhawk kit. This is the most recently released Scooter kit or mold. I, as a fan of this bird, of course had to have one of these. By the way, in addition to the E, the manufacturer has the F and recently launched the M. Os manuais da Hobbyboss deste kit seguem os tradicionais em P&B do mercado. Me pareceram simples, com as etapas de montagem bem ilustradas, embora já seja possível ver alguns erros como o uso de um pilone de míssil no ponto duro central. Não imagino porque usar isso, aliás, isso só era visto nos Skyhawks utilizados como agressores na US Navy.
The Hobbyboss manuals for this kit follow the traditional B&W on the market. They seemed simple to me, with the assembly steps well illustrated, although it is already possible to see some errors such as the use of a missile pylon in the central hard point. I can't imagine why using this, in fact, this was only seen on Skyhawks used as aggressors in the US Navy.

Os decais são para duas versões da US Navy do período da guerra do Vietnã. Aqui eu acho que a HB poderia inovar um pouco. De qualquer forma não achei nenhum erro muito gritante nos decais, somente teria que verificar se na aeronave do VA-72 realmente as marcações de combate estavam presentes nos dois lados do nariz.

The decals are for two versions of the US Navy from the Vietnam War period. Here I think HB could innovate a little. Anyway, I didn't find any very glaring errors in the decals, I just had to check if the VA-72's aircraft really had combat markings on both sides of the nose.

Aliás, os decais são bem impressos, com cores vivas e bom registro. Sempre gostei dos decais da HB e nunca tive problemas com eles, tecnicamente falando.

In fact, the decals are well printed, with vivid colors and good registration. I've always liked HB decals and never had a problem with them, technically speaking.

Os dois primeiros sprues (Gx2) apresentados aqui e integrantes do kit são de armamentos e tanques, o que chama a atenção é que são de outro kit (creio que seja do A-7 da HB).

The first two sprues (Gx2) presented here and part of the kit are from armaments and tanks, what stands out is that they are from another kit (I believe it is from the A-7 from HB).

Esses sprues trazem algumas bombas da série MK, pods, tanques e mísseis. Interessante notar que os mísseis em questão são AIM-9 Sidewinder, mas similares da versão E/G/H. São misseis usados na época da Guerra do Vietnã, mas muito pouco vistos em uso em Skyhawks. Porém, esses misseis seriam bastante úteis para serem usados nos A-4 do Kuwait ou da Marinha do Brasil, que efetivamente usaram essas mesmas versões por exemplo.

These sprues carry some MK series bombs, pods, tanks and missiles. Interesting to note that the missiles in question are AIM-9 Sidewinder, but similar to the E/G/H version. These are missiles used during the Vietnam War, but very little seen in use on Skyhawks. However, these missiles would be very useful to be used in the A-4 of Kuwait or the Brazilian Navy, which effectively used these same versions, for example.

 

Outro acessório deste sprue são os MERs (Multiple Ejection Rack) que no caso deveriam ser da serie 7 (MER 7) mas estão vagamente lembrando este. Não consegui identificar se esse MER realmente existe ou é simplesmente mais uma simplificação da HB. Melhor usar outro de resina ou de algum kit de outra marca (sugiro os da Hasegawa ou os que vem nos kits de A-4 da Fujimi).

Another accessory of this sprue are the MERs (Multiple Ejection Rack) which in this case should be from the 7 series (MER 7) but are vaguely remembering this one. I couldn't identify if this MER really exists or is simply another simplification of the HB. Better to use another one made of resin or from a kit from another brand (I suggest the ones from Hasegawa or the ones that come in the A-4 kits from Fujimi).

As transparências me pareceram bem boas (sprue E), em duas partes, bem injetadas e brilhantes.

The transparencies looked very good to me (sprue E), in two parts, well injected and shiny.

O sprue "C" vem com os tanques de 300 galões, pilones, detalhes do cockpit, trem de pouso, motor e baia de trem de pouso dianteiro.

The "C" sprue comes with the 300 gallon tanks, pylons, cockpit details, landing gear, engine and front landing gear bay.

Me chamou a atenção o formatos dos tanques subalares, me parecem um pouco "gordos" demais. Comparando com os do kit da Fujimi, e com as plantas do site tailspintopics do consagrado autor Tommy Thomason, pode-se ver que o formato do kit da HB realmente parece um pouco estranho. 

The shape of the underwing tanks caught my attention, they seem a little too "fat". Comparing it with the Fujimi kit, and with the blueprints from the well-known author Tommy Thomason's tailspintopics website, it can be seen that the shape of the HB kit does look a little strange.

Talvez depois de montado essa diferença não seja muito notada, mas eu recomendaria usar algum aftermarket ou nesse caso a peça do kit da Fujimi ou da ESCI que estão corretos.

Maybe after building this difference is not very clear, but I would recommend using an aftermarket or in this case the Fujimi or ESCI kit part that are correct.

A baia do trem de pouso dianteiro realmente me chamou a atenção positivamente, creio que seja a mais detalhada de um Scooter na escala 1/72 que já vi. Outra boa surpresa é o assento ESCAPAC bem melhor dos que vemos em outros kits.

The front landing gear bay really caught my attention positively, I believe it is the most detailed of a 1/72 scale Scooter I have ever seen. Another good surprise is the ESCAPAC seat much better than what we see in other kits.

O sprue de letra "A", que é o principal, pois tem as duas metades da fuselagem e finalmente (!) as entradas de ar injetadas em uma peça apenas, o que ajuda muito no processo de montagem.

The letter "A" sprue, which is the main one, as it has the two halves of the fuselage and finally (!) the air intakes injected in one piece, which helps a lot in the assembly process.

No geral gostei do desenho e formatos da fuselagem, dando destaque para a parte superior do painel de instrumentos do cockpit, um toque legal para modelo final. Os painéis em baixo relevo são bem feitos e finos, padrão dos kits da marca.

Overall I liked the design and shapes of the fuselage, highlighting the upper part of the cockpit instrument panel, a nice touch for the final model. The engraved panels lines are well made and thin, standard in the brand's kits.

No geral as peças são bem injetadas, sem rebarbas ou deformações. O painel de instrumentos é bem básico, sendo os instrumentos detalhados com decal.

In general, the parts are well injected, without burrs or deformations. The instrument panel is very basic, the instruments being detailed with decal.

Uma peça que poderia ser melhor detalhada em todos os kits do A-4 na escala 1/72 seria a placa existente na raiz do profundor. Essa peça é móvel na máquina real, mas em todos os kits que tenho ela é fixa. A HB infelizmente seguiu a tendência do mercado.

One part that could be better detailed on all 1/72 scale A-4 kits would be the existing plate at the root of the elevator. This part is movable in the real machine, but in all the kits I have it is fixed. HB unfortunately followed the market trend.

O último sprue avaliado, o de letra "B" é o que leva as asas (parte inferior e superior), trens de pouso e profundores.

The last sprue reviewed, the letter "B" is the one that carries the wings (bottom and top), landing gear and elevators.

De modo geral os detalhes são bons, com destaque para as partes internas das baias dos trens de pouso principal e detalhes do trem de pouso.

In general, the details are good, with emphasis on the internal parts of the main landing gear bays and details of the landing gear itself.

Na minha opinião o problema deste sprue é o formato da ponta da asa que achei muito arredondado. Um desenho um pouco estranho olhando assim desmontado. Principalmente na ponta do bordo de fuga dos ailerons, que parece curvado para dentro. 

In my opinion the problem with this sprue is the shape of the wing tip which I found very rounded. A rather strange design looking it disassembled. Especially at the tip of the trailing edge of the ailerons, which appears to be curved inwards.

Para finalizar, embora o kit tenha algumas falhas, eu gostei do que vi. Alguns detalhes que o kit trás são exclusivos, como o cockpit por exemplo. No geral é um kit muito bom que deve resultar em um ótimo modelo. A Hobbyboss tem ainda a versão F e a recentemente lançada M, os quais espero também trazer aqui para análise. Por fim, recomendo o kit, embora seja caro no comparativo com outros do mercado é um kit moderno e que deve montar bem (ainda veremos!). Obrigado!

To conclude, although the kit has some flaws, I liked what I saw. Some details that the kit brings are exclusive, such as the cockpit for example. Overall it's a very good kit that should make a great model. Hobbyboss also has the F version and the recently released M version, which I hope to bring here for review as well. Finally, I recommend the kit, although it is expensive compared to others on the market, it is a modern kit that should assemble well (we'll see!). Thanks!
