WIP: Boeing B 17F Flying Fortress 1/72 Parte 10 - The return!

Olá amigos! Hello folks!

Agora sim no fim da montagem do B-17F da Academy!

Now, the end of the Academy B-17F build!

Depois da pintura finalizada e duas camadas de Clear Gloss X-22 da Tamiya passamos para o wash com o panel line da AMMO by Mig, usei cinza e preto.

After the finished painting and two layers of Clear Gloss X-22 by Tamiya we did the washes with the AMMO by Mig panel line, I used gray and black.

Gosto de fazer o wash somente nas linhas dos painéis e relevos, sem sujar todo o kit. Muitas vezes é apenas um "pin wash".

I like to wash only the lines of the panels and reliefs, without getting the whole kit dirty. It is often just a "pin wash".

Nessa fase também fiz o weathering de todo o kit usando washes, grimes, rust effects e óleos.

At this stage I also weathered the entire kit using washes, grimes, rust effects and oils.

Também terminei de montar as peças menores, como os motores e rodas de resina. Aliás, essa foi a única peça "after market" que usei no kit. Minha ideia inicial era comprar mais coisas, incluindo armamentos, trem de pouso e decais. Mas, como esse kit ficou um ano parado devido aos percalços na montagem e quase desisti dele, resolvi montar tudo "out of the box".

I also finished assembling the smaller parts, like the engines and resin wheels. In fact, this was the only "after market" piece I used in the kit. My initial idea was to buy more things, including armaments, landing gear and decals. But, as this kit was stopped for a year due to the mishaps in the build and I almost gave up on it, I decided to assemble everything "out of the box".

Isso inclui as metralhadoras, onde fiz algumas melhorias, pois elas são muito pobres. As hélices também não são muito boas, algumas fontes citam que são muito estreitas, mas é o que temos na caixa!

this includes machine guns, which I made some improvements to, as they are very poor. The propellers are also not very good, some sources say they are very narrow, but that's what we have in the box!

Agora é hora dos famigerados decais da Academy, grossos, mal impressos, enfim um grande problema deste e de outros kits da marca. Como resolvi não investir nesse kit, tive que me virar com eles mesmos.

Now it's time for the infamous Academy decals, thick, poorly printed, finally a big problem with this and other brand kits. As I decided not to invest in this kit, I had to live with it.

Sempre é bom ter referências reais do tema que se está montando. Felizmente esse avião é bem documentando, mas mesmo assim algumas dúvidas as vezes aparecem.

It is always good to have real references of the theme being build. Fortunately this plane is well documented, but even then doubts sometimes arise.

E claro que não iriamos terminar esse kit sem mais um problema! Depois dos decais, wash e weathering é necessário sempre selar o trabalho com uma camada de verniz, nesse caso Flat Clear XF-86 da Tamiya. Essa foi a segunda vez que apliquei esse verniz e o mesmo começou a branquear logo depois da aplicação! Imagina o desespero!

Of course, we would not finish this kit without another problem! After decals, wash and weathering it is always necessary to seal the work with a layer of varnish, in this case Flat Clear XF-86 from Tamiya. This was the second time that I used this varnish and it started to whiten right after the application! Imagine my despair!

Na corrida para tentar salvar o trabalho esbarrei o kit na bancada e a junção da fuselagem, que eu já tinha reforçado com cianoacrilato, rachou bem no nariz!

In the rush to try to save my work, I ran into the kit on the workbench and the fuselage junction, which I had already reinforced with cyanoacrylate, cracked right in the nose!

Como a gente aprende com o hobby, respira fundo e vamos arrumar o erro. Então, lixa, putty, primer e neutral Gray novamente. Me safei de mais uma peça pregada por esse kit (ou da minha falta de habilidade)!

As we learn from the hobby, take a deep breath and let's fix the mistake. Then, sandpaper, putty, primer and neutral Gray again. I saved the work from yet another trick played by this kit (or my lack of skill)!

Bem, kit com verniz fosco aplicado, que consegui salvar e preparado para receber todas as peças faltantes (torres, janelas, nariz, metralhadoras, trem de pouso etc...)
